SaskEnergy to receive the Sask Sport
Inc. President's Citation
Larry LeBlanc, President of Sask Sport
Inc., today announced that SaskEnergy, the province's
gas utility, will receive the Sask Sport Inc.
President's Citation for its outstanding contributions
to amateur sport in Saskatchewan.
This Citation is presented to an
individual, corporation or organization who has
contributed, either personally or financially, to
amateur sport in Saskatchewan. The award will be
presented at the Saskatchewan Sport Awards on Thursday,
March 18, at Queensbury Centre in Regina.
"SaskEnergy has demonstrated true
leadership through its volunteer and financial
commitment to amateur sport. Through the SaskEnergy
Catch for KidSport™ program, hundreds of kids who may
have been unable to participate in community sport
programs are now able to do so. SaskEnergy has supported
numerous leagues and teams, and contributed volunteers
at major sport events. It also played a significant role
in the success of the 2001 Mastercard Memorial Cup,"
Since its inception in 1998, the
SaskEnergy Catch for KidSport™ program has raised more
than $156,000 and assisted 2,173 kids. The program has
changed over the years, but during the last season,
SaskEnergy donated $25 for every completed reception and
field goal, as well as $100 for every touchdown the
Riders made. An additional $28,000 was raised by the
"Line Up with the Legends" program where former Riders
were paired up with corporate teams for a half-time
obstacle course. Through its initiative, SaskEnergy has
encouraged numerous businesses and individuals to
support the program.
"We are privileged and fortunate to be
affiliated with both Sask Sport and Kidsport, which year
after year support so many worthwhile initiatives across
Saskatchewan," said Ron Clark, President and Chief
Executive Officer of SaskEnergy. "On behalf of the many
SaskEnergy employees, local business and community
organizations that have partnered together to make a
program like SaskEnergy's Catch for Kidsport possible, I
am pleased to accept this prestigious award."
