Roughrider Legends Rally Around Saskatchewan Kids in 2004

In one of the biggest repeat performances in Saskatchewan football history, Rider greats are lining up to support underprivileged kids in Saskatchewan through the 2004 SaskEnergy Catch for KidSportTM Program. Building on the success of last year's initiative, where 12 former Riders led corporate teams in raising more than $52,000 for KidSportTM Saskatchewan, the Legends are poised to lead the challenge again - through the Line Up with the Legends program.

At Level 10 Fitness Inc. in Regina, Rider legends - like Roger Aldag, Dan Farthing, and Catch for KidSportTM Ambassador Paul McCallum - were on hand to "kick off" this year's initiative. During half-time at the Rider home game on October 2, corporate teams, each led by a Rider legend, will participate in an entertaining obstacle course for some great prizes. Prior to the event, all teams will raise money for the SaskEnergy Catch for KidSportTM Program.

"If there's ever been a testament to the community-mindedness and support of Saskatchewan people, 'Line Up with the Legends' is definitely it," said SaskEnergy President and CEO Ron Clark. "The Riders have given a lot to the Province over the years, not just in terms of great entertainment for fans, but also their commitment to making Saskatchewan a better place to live. Now, along with the dedication of our corporate community, some of the best Rider players are coming together yet again in an initiative that will have a positive impact on our young people."

All funds raised through the Catch for KidSport™ program will go directly to KidSport™ Saskatchewan, a charity that helps children from families facing financial obstacles to participate in community sports programs around the Province. Last year the program raised more than $52,000, enabling approximately 700 kids to participate in sports programs. Since the program's inception in 1998 by Don Narcisse and SaskEnergy, over $156,000 has been raised, which has helped more than 2,100 Saskatchewan children.

"Sport teaches the values of teamwork, dedication and responsibility. These are values that are not only important in sport, but in all walks of life," said Diane Lemon, Provincial Board Member of KidSportTM Saskatchewan. "Through the SaskEnergy Catch for KidSportTM Program, we're showing kids how sport is an essential ingredient of a healthy lifestyle."

Clark also mentioned that throughout the CFL regular season, SaskEnergy will again donate $25 per Roughrider field goal, $25 per offensive pass completion and $100 per touchdown to KidSport™ Saskatchewan.

Donations can be made to the program by calling 1-800-319-GAME or by visiting the Catch for KidSportTM website at catchforkidsport.saskenergy.com, where further information about "Line Up with the Legends" will also be available. Pledges can also be mailed to the SaskEnergy Catch for KidSportTM Program, c/o KidSport™ Saskatchewan, 1870 Lorne Street, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 2L7.
