SaskEnergy Challenges Corporate Sponsors to Step Up To the Plate

In recognition of National Volunteer Week (April 17 - 23), SaskEnergy officially launched the Champion of Volunteers Corporate Volunteer Recruitment Challenge for the 2005 Canada Summer Games.

As the presenting sponsor of volunteers for the 2005 Canada Summer Games, SaskEnergy is challenging employees from all other Canada Games sponsors to register this week as a volunteer for the Canada Summer Games. The corporate sponsor having the highest per capita employee participation by April 21st will be crowned the Corporate Volunteer Champion for National Volunteer Week on Friday.

"Our province's business community has a proud tradition of encouraging employee support of events such as this," said Harry Van Mulligen, Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy. "For those businesses wanting their employees involved in the Canada Games this summer, Volunteer Week is a good reminder to register."

To date there are approximately 2,800 volunteers registered. However, six thousand volunteers are required to stage the Canada Summer Games.

Bob Ellard, President of the 2005 Canada Summer Games, said he is impressed with the response he has received from volunteers and sponsor corporations in Regina and the surrounding area. "Games volunteers are every bit as crucial to the success of this event as the world class athletes who will be competing and SaskEnergy has been generous in its support of volunteers."

SaskEnergy's volunteer employees will be assisting in the training of volunteers; production of accreditation; distributing of uniforms; and hosting volunteer recognition events.
