Saskatchewan Property Management says "Yes" to Natural Gas in La Ronge

Saskatchewan Property Management says "Yes" to Natural Gas in La Ronge

SaskEnergy is pleased to announce that Saskatchewan Property Management (SPM) has committed to ensuring that its provincial government facilities in La Ronge will be fueled by natural gas. SaskEnergy has initiated a natural gas service offering to La Ronge, Weyakwin and area, with a goal of obtaining 500 customer commitments by January 31, 2007, in order for the project to proceed.

With 14 facilities in La Ronge and area, SPM is the largest commercial customer to commit to the SaskEnergy Natural Gas Service Offering. The announcement was made at a news conference today at Mistasinihk Place in La Ronge, one of the SPM facilities to be converted to natural gas in 2008 if the service offering is successful. "The provincial government facilities operated by Saskatchewan Property Management are among the largest energy users in the area. Natural gas will provide SPM with a more reliable, cleaner-burning and economical fuel than other sources currently used," said Dean Reeve, Executive Vice President, SaskEnergy. "While we are encouraged by the initial response that we'll meet our customer sign-up goal, it's still very important that local residents and businesses sign-up before the end of the month, so we can begin work on construction and have a natural gas system in place in the area for Spring 2008."

Reeve said with the commitment by SPM to convert its facilities to natural gas, SaskEnergy now has 176 residential, commercial and institutional natural gas customers committed to the project.

"The availability of natural gas to government-owned buildings assists SPM in providing good quality, reliable, and environmentally-friendly accommodation to government departments and agencies. Natural gas is more economical than electricity, propane or fuel oil and we will see savings in energy costs in the future", said Howard Arndt, Energy Management Manager with SPM.

SaskEnergy also announced that Conexus Credit Union in La Ronge is offering rates as low as Prime + 1% to local residents so they can make natural gas work for them. Call 1-800-667-7477 to book an appointment today.
