SASKATCHEWAN ENERGUIDE FOR HOUSES EXTENDED AND ENHANCED
April 4, 2007
FORMER U.S. VICE-PRESIDENT AL GORE TO SPEAK IN SASKATCHEWAN
Premier Lorne Calvert announced today that former U.S.
vice-president Al Gore has accepted his invitation to deliver a keynote address
in Regina on Monday, April 23, 2007.
"I am very pleased that former vice-president Gore is coming to Saskatchewan the
day after Earth Day," Calvert said. "Throughout his career he has
championed the environment. Al Gore has always been a person ahead of his
time and Saskatchewan is honoured to welcome a leader of such stature and
accomplishment to our province to discuss the climate crisis we are facing."
In February 2007 "An Inconvenient Truth" was awarded the Oscar for Best
Documentary Feature. The film, released in May 2006, is the third highest
grossing documentary of all time and offers a passionate and inspirational look
at Gore's crusade to halt global warming by exposing the myths and
misconceptions that surround it. Gore's critically acclaimed work seeks to
examine the truth about what he calls our "planetary emergency" through this
portrait of his travelling global warming show.
"As the former vice-president said as he accepted his Academy Award, climate
change is moral issue, not just a political issue," Calvert added. "Having
former vice-president Gore make his powerful presentation in Saskatchewan will
raise awareness about the actions that we all have a responsibility to undertake
to fight global warming."
Gore will speak at the Brandt Centre in Regina at 11 a.m. on April 23. The
event tickets will go on sale on Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m. local time through
Ticketmaster outlets, and range in price from $20 to $75 plus applicable service
charges. SaskTel is the presenting sponsor.
"SaskTel has recently developed a comprehensive environment strategy that we are
in the process of implementing," SaskTel president and CEO Robert Watson said.
"We are extremely pleased to be the presenting sponsor for former vice-president
Al Gore's presentation".
SaskEnergy is sponsoring 250 tickets enabling Saskatchewan high school and
university students to attend as part of their ongoing commitment to supporting
environmental education. Teachers interested in sending a team from their
school can find registration information online at SaskEnergy's web site at
