Play it safe and be sure to 'Call Before You Dig' this spring

Safety should be the first priority for anyone with a project involving excavation work this spring and that's where Sask 1st Call is ready to help.

Whether you are a contractor preparing for a spring project, a homeowner eyeing space for that new garage, or a farmer creating temporary drainage to deal with spring flooding, make the safe call to Sask 1st Call to ensure underground lines are marked.

Sask 1st Call is a "Call Before You Dig" service for contractors and homeowners planning to dig or excavate anywhere in Saskatchewan. Sask 1st Call issues line locate request to member companies to ensure that their underground facilities are clearly marked before work starts. Click here to see member list.

"Keeping the Saskatchewan digging community safe and secure is the number one concern for Sask 1st Call and its members," says Cheryl Elmer, Manager of Sask 1st Call. "To date, 24 companies are members of Sask 1st Call, representing more than a quarter million kilometers of buried infrastructure across Saskatchewan, all of which can be accessed by one toll-free number."

 "As a member of Sask 1st Call, TransGas strongly supports and encourages residents to make the call before you begin your spring projects," said Roger Aldag, Manager of Public Awareness with TransGas, "We also want to remind the communities who are in flooded areas to contact Sask 1st Call if they need to perform any type of emergency excavation. In situations where pipeline facilities may be submerged by flooding, TransGas will directly supervise digging activity to ensure safety.

" Sask 1st Call offers customers the option to request line locates through phone, fax and online. Calls to Sask 1st Call toll-free number are managed by experienced Customer Service Representatives who use a specialized software system to determine which of their member companies have underground facilities at that location and automatically sends out a line locate request.
