Municipal Payments and Taxes

Municipal
Payment
The SaskEnergy Act requires SaskEnergy to remit a municipal payment to each of 109 urban municipalities. Subject to certain exemptions, this payment is calculated as a percentage of natural gas sales revenue collected within the municipality. In those municipalities where a municipal payment applies, the amount of the payment is displayed as a separate line item on each customer's bill.

GST

Collected and remitted to Revenue Canada and applies to SaskEnergy charges as well as municipal payments.

PST

The Provincial Sales Tax Act exempts natural gas from tax when used for heating purposes.
