In Your Community

SaskEnergy supports more than 1,200 events and programs in over 300 Saskatchewan communities every year. Our sponsorship involvement ranges from large, well-known events that reach across the province to smaller, local events that make an impact at the grass-roots level. Our community investment program is divided into four categories - Learning & Development, Community Engagement, Saskatchewan Pride and Environmental Stewardship - according to the objectives of each recipient project.

SaskEnergy Home Energy Efficiency Project

The SaskEnergy Home Energy Efficiency Project (HEEP) is a province-wide initiative offered to homeowners or renters who pay their own utility bills and have a combined household income of no more than $45,000 a year.

Selected households may receive up to $200 worth of home improvement products - such as a programmable thermostat, weather-stripping for doors, plastic window shrink film, furnace filters and water-saving devices - all installed by volunteers. The energy efficient upgrades may save each household up to $100 a year on their utility bills.

HEEP has been in effect since 2005 and is committed to helping 2,500 Saskatchewan families reduce both their energy costs and carbon footprint by the year 2010. To date, 18,000 HEEP volunteer hours have been dedicated to help 1,954 families in 40 different communities.

In 2009, the SaskEnergy Home Energy Efficiency Project implemented a new Rural Community Initiative that saw the communities of Yellow Grass, Shellbrook and Wilkie receive HEEP days as well as $5,000 grants that were put towards community improvement projects that everyone could benefit from. Wilkie put the grant towards a new floor in the town's hockey rink, Shellbrook will be installing new windows, weather stripping, energy efficient light bulbs and attic insulation into their museum and Yellow Grass will be making interior and exterior renovations to the seniors drop-in centre.

SaskEnergy Community BBQ Program

Through our Community BBQ program, SaskEnergy employees help with approximately 100 BBQs throughout Saskatchewan every year. Using our large, portable, natural gas BBQ equipment, SaskEnergy BBQ technicians are able to cook a large amount of food in a short period of time, making the program ideal for large community events. Community BBQs may be in support of a charity, a sponsorship commitment, customer service or a community initiative. Eligible events are selected by local SaskEnergy Community Fund representatives or Corporate Affairs.

SaskEnergy would be pleased to supply a BBQ and a technician for community events, such as:

Community clean-up day
Local rink fundraiser
Community development project (e.g., TransCanada Trail building)
United Way campaign kick-off
Local youth group program fundraiser (e.g., 4H)
Special school event (e.g., youth conference or provincial sports competition)
Special Olympics event
Volunteer appreciation BBQ

SaskEnergy Community BBQ requests must meet the general criteria applied to all sponsorship requests. Currently, we have six BBQs that are ideally located to enable accessibility to events throughout the province.
