ENERGY STAR®

ENERGY STAR is an international symbol of energy efficiency. It helps you quickly and easily identify the most energy efficient products available to help you save energy, money and protect the environment.

Manufacturers or retailers place the ENERGY STAR logo on the models that meet or exceed the ENERGY STAR energy-efficiency criteria. Today, most leading manufacturers of home heating equipment are producing high-efficiency systems that qualify for the ENERGY STAR logo.

What is an ENERGY STAR qualified furnace?

An ENERGY STAR natural gas furnace has an annual fuel utilization efficiency or AFUE rating of 90% or higher.

Visit the Home Heating section of our website for more information.

What is a brushless DC motor?

“Brushless DC” refers to the furnace’s indoor blower motor, which runs at different speeds to precisely control the flow of heated and cooled air throughout your home.

Your benefits include:

  • Lower costs- Uses less electricity than standard motors.
  • Greater comfort- Better regulates the flow of air throughout your home.
  • Cleaner air – When the fan operates constantly, the motor will continue to slowly circulate air, allowing filters to capture more contaminants.

You can locate the ENERGY STAR logo on the back of the manufacturer's brochures, beside the EnerGuide rating box. As well, ENERGY STAR qualifying furnaces, boilers and efficiency ratings for fireplaces and water heaters can be found on the Natural Resources Canada website.

In Canada, ENERGY STAR currently includes the following product categories:
