Saskatchewan Games Council

Excitement was in the air today as Saskatchewan Games Council Chair Michael Suchan and Sask Sport Inc. President Don MacAulay officially introduced Team Saskatchewan 2007.

Team Saskatchewan 2007 will participate in the 21st Jeux du Canada Games in Whitehorse Yukon, February 23rd to March 10, 2007. The team consists of 322 athletes, coaches, and managers, 20 mission staff and 3 performing artists.

"Congratulations to all the members chose to represent Team Saskatchewan," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Glenn Hagel said. "As you strive to attain your personal best, please know that we are all proud to have you representing everyone back home in Saskatchewan. Compete hard, compete fair, have fun."

"The Games enhance sport development in Canada and create legacies in the host community" Suchan said. "This group team is truly a provincial team as over 80 communities throughout the province are represented, creating a strong message of the value of sport in developing a healthy active lifestyle."

The games are an important part of the long term athlete development program designed by the Canadian Sport Centers' in cooperation with Sport Canada. The focus on high performance and the opportunity to excel prepares our athletes for future National and International competitions.

"Team Saskatchewan represents the best athletes in our province and they have earned their position through hard work, perseverance and determination. We wish everyone on the team the best of luck as they make the entire province proud with their efforts," said Don MacAulay, President of Sask Sport Inc.

As a proud corporate sponsor of Team Saskatchewan, Doug Kelln President and CEO of SaskEnergy/Trans Gas, highlighted the corporations commitment to Saskatchewan athletes by "Fuelling Champions and Sharing Dreams" of Saskatchewan's athletes. President Kelln also presented a specially designed pin to the athletes in recognition of their support.

Athletes will be competing in 21 different sports throughout the two week event. Team Saskatchewan results will be updated daily on the Team Saskatchewan Web site at www.teamsaskatchewan.ca. The official 2007 Jeux Canada games Web site is located at www.2007canadagames.ca
