SaskEnergy is committing $3.75 million in 2022-23 to help customers save energy and reduce emissions through its Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate program.
“The Residential Equipment Replacement Rebate provides eligible homeowners with rebates of up to $2,000 to replace older furnaces and boilers with high-efficiency natural gas equipment,” said Don Morgan, Minister responsible for SaskEnergy. “This program helps homeowners reduce their energy consumption, save money, and minimize carbon emissions.”
The residential rebate program encourages homeowners to invest in high-efficiency natural gas equipment with the goal of reducing end-use greenhouse gas emissions by 19,000 tonnes of CO2e this year, which is equivalent to taking 4,100 vehicles off the road. Homeowners who qualify for the rebate will continue to save energy and money and reduce their end-use emissions for the life of the equipment that they install.
Rebates of up to $2,000 per home are available for eligible boiler replacements, and up to $1,000 for eligible tankless water heaters replacing existing equipment. Furnace replacement rebates are $650 for eligible 97 per cent efficiency models and $325 for eligible 96 per cent to 96.9 per cent efficiency models. Rebates are also available for eligible high-efficiency tank water heaters ($250) and combi-boilers ($800) that replace existing equipment, and for the installation of a heat recovery ventilator ($100) in an existing home. Applying for the rebate is simple, customers can apply directly on SaskEnergy’s website through an online form.
“The most impactful thing we can do right now to reduce emissions is support energy efficiency for our customers and that’s exactly what this program does,” said Kevin Adair, who leads SaskEnergy’s Customer Service Operations. “Helping customers optimize home energy use is fundamental to our commitment to being a greener energy provider. Improving energy efficiency is a vital step in reducing overall emissions in Saskatchewan.”
The rebate is available exclusively through SaskEnergy Network Members. The rebate can be combined with the existing Saskatchewan Home Renovation Tax Credit if new equipment is installed before December 31, 2022. New builds are not eligible for the rebate.
