SaskEnergy is once again providing qualifying homeowners with a free furnace upgrade through its Heating Affordability Program (HAP).
The program, which launched in 2025, is designed to help income-qualified homeowners replace their low efficiency furnace with a high-efficiency model, free of charge. By upgrading to high-efficiency equipment, participants can save up to $650 annually on natural gas and electricity costs.
“For customers facing financial barriers, replacing an aging, low-efficiency furnace is not always an option. With HAP, SaskEnergy is able to help alleviate that concern and lower their monthly bills,” said Cory Frei, SaskEnergy Interim President and Chief Executive Officer. “The new, high-efficiency equipment is safer, more reliable and more efficient — saving customers money and bringing them peace of mind during the cold winter months knowing they can rely on their furnace when they need it most.”
In order to be selected for HAP, participants must first take part in the SaskPower Energy Assistance Program (EAP). Qualifying participants will be sent an invitation to apply for HAP and must meet HAP’s requirements for income level and existing heating equipment criteria.
Since the program was launched, 37 qualifying applicants have received a free furnace replacement. The goal for the 2026-27 program year is to replace up to 50 furnaces.
Furnace replacements will be completed through SaskEnergy’s Network Members. Each upgrade will include a 96% annual fuel utilization efficiency single stage natural gas furnace, required modifications to the home’s venting, three furnace filters and, if required, a programmable thermostat.
