Bringing Joy to Local Communities
SaskEnergy employees recently showed how small acts of kindness can create big impacts in three Saskatchewan communities. Through initiatives in Moose Jaw, Weyburn and Regina, teams came together to support care homes and schools, bringing joy and connection to people who need it most.
Coffee, Music, and Smiles
In Weyburn, employees spent an afternoon at the Weyburn Special Care Home, creating a warm and lively atmosphere with music, snacks, and conversation. They hired a local musician and brought treats to share, turning the visit into a celebration of connection.
“Spending time with the residents reminded me that companionship matters so much,” says employee Sherri Rowat. “Seeing their smiles made me appreciate the importance of slowing down and being present.”
Her colleague, Michelle Roemer, adds that the event was a wonderful experience for everyone.
“They were so happy to have us there and made us feel incredibly welcome,” she says.
Reading and Fun at Thomson Community School
In Regina, our Human Resources team visited Thomson Community School for an afternoon of reading and laughter with students. They collected books to donate and brought fresh fruit and cookies to make the day extra special.
“It was an incredibly rewarding experience,” says Annapurna Kaul Prithiani, Administrative Coordinator. “One moment really stood out — a shy child who hid behind his teacher eventually warmed up and insisted on reading a book to one of us. It showed how patience and kindness can make a big difference.”
A Sweet Way to Give Back
In Moose Jaw, employees rallied to support the Moose Jaw Special Care Home. Their goal was simple: to brighten the lives of residents and their families.
The staff in Moose Jaw hosted a bake sale filled with homemade goodies — from vanilla cherry cupcakes to rice crispy squares. The event was a hit, raising funds to help the care home provide engaging activities for residents.
“I was extremely proud to see the support from everyone,” says employee Maddy Weinrich. “It shows the culture of community support and volunteerism we value.”
For the past 25 years, SaskEnergy has been the Champion of Volunteers and is proud to provide Employee Volunteerism Grants to help support initiatives such as these.
Whether it’s sharing a story, baking a treat, or simply spending time with someone, small acts of kindness can have a big impact.
