Community Spirit Shines at Saskatchewan Winter Games Volunteer Kick-Off
The countdown to the 2026 Saskatchewan Winter Games is on! Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation showed their excitement on November 5 with a big turnout at the SaskEnergy Volunteer Kick-Off Event.
Families, athletes and community members packed the Moeller Hometown Arena to learn more and sign up as volunteers for the Games, happening February 15–21, 2026, in Meadow Lake and Flying Dust First Nation.
“The strong turnout was a clear sign of community support and excitement,” says Jeanna Kozan, Community and Brand Officer at SaskEnergy. “As the Volunteer Sponsor for the Games, we wanted to help recruit volunteers — and the response from the community was fantastic.”
Gus the Gasosaurus, the SaskEnergy mascot, made an appearance at the event, which also featured local hockey teams and figure skaters, creating a fun atmosphere and sense of community pride leading up to the Games.
“Many people came just to learn about volunteering and signed up right away,” Jeanna says. “It was also great for kids to see others getting involved.”
For Games Manager Brittani Dunsing, the event was a preview of what’s ahead.
“I’m most looking forward to seeing our community come together—the energy, the teamwork, and the pride the Winter Games will bring out in everyone,” she says.
The Kick-Off also celebrated SaskEnergy as the Official Volunteer Sponsor for the Games.
“SaskEnergy’s support lets us celebrate the heart of the Games — our volunteers — and helps create an amazing experience for everyone,” Brittani says.
A lot of work goes into making the Games possible, and volunteers are still needed for roles like venue operations, athlete services, ceremonies, transportation, media, and culture. No experience is needed, training will be provided, and it’s a great way to help support athletes from across the province.
“Volunteering is the best way to be part of something bigger,” Brittani says. “You don’t just watch the Winter Games happen—you help make them happen.”
SaskEnergy has supported the Saskatchewan Summer and Winter Games for over 20 years. This year marks the 25th anniversary of its Champion of Volunteers program, which has given more than $2.4 million to non-profit and charitable groups across the province.
