Goals for KidSport scores more than $20,000 with an assist from SaskEnergy

The presentation of the KidSport Cup

The Goals for KidSport program wrapped up another season with more than $20,000 raised to help ease financial barriers for youth involved in sports.  

The program is a three-way partnership between SaskEnergy and its Network Members, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and KidSport. During the program’s nine years, more than $230,000 has been raised! The SJHL is the program's sponsored partner and brings Goals for KidSport to 11 communities across the province.

Through Goals for KidSport, SaskEnergy donates $20 for every home goal scored during the SJHL season, up to 1,000 goals. This year, the 1,000th goal was scored by Carter Dobson of the Nipawin Hawks!

For a friendly and competitive twist, SJHL teams competed to score the most home goals throughout the season, which would earn them the coveted KidSport cup. This year’s cup was the Battleford North Stars after the team scored 123 home goals!

As part of the Goals for KidSport program, KidSport volunteers host 11 SJHL game nights that include interactive intermission activities to get the crowd in on the action. On top of that, SaskEnergy Network Members assisted in raising money in these 11 communities through game night goal donations or donations for goals throughout the season. Together, they contributed $1,700 and all the funds raised during each game night stayed in that community!

SaskEnergy was also proud to recognize and celebrate volunteers and billet families who have had a lasting impact on the SJHL teams. As part of our Champion of Volunteers program, SaskEnergy awarded a Volunteer Champion plaque and SaskEnergy branded blanket at each Game Night to a deserving volunteer in that community.
