SaskEnergy’s Safe Digging Excellence Award celebrates organizations committed to safe digging and community safety.
Fedorowich Construction Limited has received SaskEnergy’s Safe Digging Excellence Award for its long-standing commitment to protecting people and underground infrastructure in east-central Saskatchewan.
Based in Yorkton, Fedorowich Construction Limited is a paving company that has served the area for more than a century.
“My advice for other companies is don't take shortcuts,” said Laurie Fedorowich, Co-owner, Fedorowich Construction Limited. “Make sure that all the proper steps are being taken to ensure safe digging practices and procedures at the work site.”
By following safe digging practices, companies help to prevent injuries, avoid damage to property and underground infrastructure, and keep their projects moving without delay. With close to 88,000 kilometres of natural gas lines, SaskEnergy relies on these practices to maintain the safety and reliability of its system and meet the energy needs of more than 415,000 homes and businesses throughout the province.
“SaskEnergy is committed to working closely with contractors to support a culture of safe digging in Saskatchewan,” said Kevin Adair, Executive Vice President, Customer Service Operations for SaskEnergy. “By recognizing companies such as Fedorowich Construction Limited with a Safe Digging Excellence Award, we’re acknowledging the important role they play in keeping underground natural gas infrastructure safe for everyone.”
In its second year of the award, SaskEnergy is once again honouring three Saskatchewan businesses in the excavating industry. Each business completed at least 25 line locate requests annually over the past three years and had no contacts with natural gas infrastructure.
The award was presented to Fedorowich Construction Limited at the Dig Safe breakfast in Yorkton on April 8, 2026. The other two award recipients will be announced on April 21 in Saskatoon and April 23 in Weyburn.
For more than 30 years, the Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance (SCGA) has hosted Dig Safe breakfasts in communities throughout the province. The breakfasts are held throughout April, which is Dig Safe month and the unofficial start of the spring digging season.
