SaskEnergy Rate Reduction to Lowest Level in 19 Years Could be Wiped Out by Federal Carbon Tax

Starting today, Saskatchewan homeowners and businesses will see their natural gas rates reduced. However, the savings may be only temporary if the federal carbon tax is imposed on SaskEnergy customers. SaskEnergy’s commodity rate drops from $3.65/Gigajoule (GJ) to $2.95/Gigajoule (GJ) today, which is the lowest rate offered to customers since 1999. SaskEnergy has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel for an even lower rate of $2.65/GJ, which would come into effect on April 1, 2019. The Government of Saskatchewan approved SaskEnergy’s request for an interim November 1 rate to allow...

More and more women are pursuing roles within SaskEnergy’s Operations team! From the most frigid cold to the hottest summer days, around the clock, these frontline employees do their best to serve our customers. “Being a farm kid, I always preferred being outside and working with tools,” says Alison Minifie, a supervisor and longtime former Service Technician. “I always enjoyed helping my husband complete projects, never being one to just sit and watch him complete anything,” adds Service Technician Amanda King-Dukart. ‘The Key Message is Safety’: SaskEnergy Provides Training to Volunteer Fire Fighters

It’s important to SaskEnergy that when a volunteer fire department responds to an emergency that involves natural gas, they feel prepared and confident in keeping the situation safe. That’s why, for two decades, SaskEnergy has supported the Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters Association (SVFFA) by providing training and sponsorship support. The latest round of training came at this spring’s SVFFA fire school in Melville, where firefighters were provided with information on how to respond to a natural gas-related emergency. Attending the fire school to provide the training were SaskEnergy...

In many Indigenous cultures a pipe ceremony symbolizes unity, peace and a connection between the physical and spiritual worlds. Since early 2022, these ceremonies have become commonplace during SaskEnergy gas line construction projects. “A pipe ceremony is really about connection and prayer. For example, at SaskEnergy when we have these ceremonies as part of our construction projects, we’re asking for the safety of our personnel, we’re asking for a successful project and we’re also asking for forgiveness for disturbing the land, for disturbing Mother Earth,” explains Joseph Daniels, Director...

In 2017-18, SaskEnergy invested in projects to move high pressure transmission pipelines away from cities, while significantly increasing capacity to serve the growing number of homes, businesses and industries that...
