SaskEnergy is committed to supporting first responders throughout Saskatchewan. Since 2009, we’ve been a proud sponsor of the Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs Conference.

Operations Manager Al Acton spoke at this year's event in Swift Current, bringing greetings on behalf of SaskEnergy.

“Firefighters are vital to the safety of communities throughout the province,” Al says. “SaskEnergy employees and firefighters are both involved in fires and natural gas incidents. So, it’s important to maintain a positive relationship with firefighters. Safety is the number one priority for all of us.”

The conference saw firefighters come together to learn about best practices and safety. The public was also welcome to attend and view the close to 70 vendors and displays.

SaskEnergy offers natural gas awareness and safety training to Saskatchewan fire departments. The conference provided an opportunity to remind the firefighting community of the training. Firefighters taking the training learn about natural gas and our system. Participants also learn how to create a safe response to a natural gas emergency.

“It’s important to understand the needs and expectations of those responding to an incident,” says Darren Janke, SaskEnergy’s Director of Safety and Emergency Management. “It ensures both the firefighters and SaskEnergy can respond safely and effectively.”
