Demonstrating the Champion of Volunteers spirit at the Regina Food Bank

SaskEnergy is celebrating 25 years of being Saskatchewan’s Champion of Volunteers. With that, many of our employees are renewing their commitment to making an impact in the community. In February, a team of SaskEnergy employees volunteered at the Regina Food Bank. “It feels good to help such an impactful organization. When SaskEnergy employees volunteer with these community staples, we can really amplify our impact and demonstrate our company’s commitment to the communities we live and work in,” says employee Daniel Dietrich. Soaked But Strong: Volunteers Brave the Rain to Help Clean Up

Every year, the North Central Community Association organizes a clean-up to help get rid of garbage and large items in the inner-city neighbourhood before winter arrives. This year, the clean-up faced a new challenge — heavy rain, but that didn’t stop volunteers from showing up and doing their part. “The rain was constant during the clean-up, but things still went well,” says Misty-Lee Bird, a SaskEnergy employee who helped out along with her partner Jamey. “People in North Central don’t always have a way to get rid of big items, so even though we were soaked, it felt good to help.” Volunteers...

Natural gas usage in Saskatchewan continues to break records

The return of extreme cold weather across Saskatchewan this week has again helped break the record for natural gas consumption in the province. Natural gas usage of an estimated 1.66 petajoules (PJ) on January 6, 2022 surpassed the previous daily record set on December 29, 2021. This marks the fifth time in the past two weeks that daily natural gas consumption in Saskatchewan has approached or exceeded 1.6 PJ. Prior to this winter, the previous daily usage record was 1.57 PJ, set in February 2021. SaskEnergy measures daily natural gas consumption for the 24-hour period from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 a...

Volunteers Help Make Canoe Kayak Nationals a Success in Regina

Colourful canoes and kayaks, all lined up and ready to race, filled the south side of Wascana Lake at the end of August for the 2025 Canoe Kayak Canada Sprint National Championships. These championships drew more than 900 athletes from all over Canada to Regina. With so many athletes and races, it was all hands on deck to help the event run smoothly. That’s where more than 200 volunteers came in. “This event definitely could not happen without volunteers,” says Nathan Wilson, a member of the host organizing committee. “There can be up to 17 boats on the water at once, so we need people to help...

Mini libraries bring big smiles to Saskatchewan schools

In late November, Grade 3 students at St. Catherine School in Regina received a surprise that will shape their learning for years to come — a new mini classroom library. The excitement was immediate as students eagerly explored the fresh collection of books, flipping through pages and sharing discoveries with friends. For Jeanna Kozan, a SaskEnergy employee who visited the school during the delivery, one moment in particular stood out. “One of the children we met was very quiet and shy at first,” Jeanna says. “But as soon as he found a book that interested him, he grabbed it, sat down, and...

Using storage caverns to serve our customers

As the weather turns cold, our customers rely on natural gas to heat their homes and businesses. SaskEnergy plans year-round to provide Saskatchewan residents with the energy they need. One of the ways we meet the demand for energy is with storage caverns. Storage caverns are large underground cavities where we can safely store natural gas. A storage cavern has an average size of about 40 to 50 Olympic-sized swimming pools and are about one kilometre below the ground. “A storage cavern is the greatest thing for the storage of energy,” says Derek Leach, Director of SaskEnergy’s System Control...
