SaskEnergy supports community safety through cleanup events

For several years running, SaskEnergy employees have volunteered their time to support annual community cleanups in Regina and Yorkton. In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer. More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. These included tires, scrap metal, mattresses, furniture, appliances and yard debris. Meanwhile, the NCCA enlisted a group of young people to...

Soaked but strong: volunteers brave the rain to help clean up

Every year, the North Central Community Association organizes a clean-up to help get rid of garbage and large items in the inner-city neighbourhood before winter arrives. This year, the clean-up faced a new challenge — heavy rain, but that didn’t stop volunteers from showing up and doing their part. “The rain was constant during the clean-up, but things still went well,” says Misty-Lee Bird, a SaskEnergy employee who helped out along with her partner Jamey. “People in North Central don’t always have a way to get rid of big items, so even though we were soaked, it felt good to help.” Volunteers...

‘We’re just super lucky’: A close encounter with carbon monoxide

For weeks, Ross Carolan and his family felt sick but didn’t know why. Ross, his wife and their two young children were all feeling lethargic and coughing. Even their cat was irritable instead of her usual friendly self. This was in fall 2022. In what seemed like an unrelated issue at the time, the humidifier on Ross’s furnace had been leaking water, so he contacted a plumbing and heating company. This call may have saved their lives. The furnace technician used a Gas Measurement Instrument and found the furnace room contained 385 parts per million (ppm) of carbon monoxide (CO) — a life...

SaskEnergy extends carbon monoxide safety rebate

In support of carbon monoxide (CO) safety awareness, and after a successful launch of the program, SaskEnergy is extending its CO alarm rebate offer until March 31, 2021. SaskEnergy initially partnered with retailers across Saskatchewan to offer a $10 rebate on the purchase of CO alarms from November 2, 2020 to January 31, 2021. During the first month, more than 5,000 alarms were purchased as part of the point-of-sale rebate offer. “It is critical that Saskatchewan residents take carbon monoxide safety seriously. Recent events in the province serve as crucial reminders of the risks associated...
