SaskEnergy supports community safety through cleanup events
For several years running, SaskEnergy employees have volunteered their time to support annual community cleanups in Regina and Yorkton. In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer. More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. These included tires, scrap metal, mattresses, furniture, appliances and yard debris. Meanwhile, the NCCA enlisted a group of young people to...

Highlighting Saskatchewan community organizations through Share the Warmth Days
There is a lot of good that sharing a little warmth can do. In honour of the 30th anniversary of SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program, we launched Share the Warmth Days. The initiative — which ran until February 13 — featured a series of events across the province aimed at highlighting community-based organizations who bring warmth, including shelter, food, clothing and mental health services, to those who need it most. For Share the Warmth Days event, SaskEnergy volunteers partnered with a local organization that was one of this year’s Share the Warmth grant recipients to hand out bags of...
Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week Declared November 6 to 10
Invisible, tasteless, odourless, and poisonous. Carbon Monoxide (CO) has earned its reputation as the silent killer. To help raise awareness about CO safety, the Government of Saskatchewan has recognized November 6-10 as Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week. “This week is dedicated to ensuring the people of our province know how to protect themselves and their loved ones from the dangers of carbon monoxide,” Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy Dustin Duncan said. “A working CO detector can alert you to danger before physical symptoms appear, which is why our government made CO alarms mandatory in...

‘We’re just super lucky’: A close encounter with carbon monoxide
For weeks, Ross Carolan and his family felt sick but didn’t know why. Ross, his wife and their two young children were all feeling lethargic and coughing. Even their cat was irritable instead of her usual friendly self. This was in fall 2022. In what seemed like an unrelated issue at the time, the humidifier on Ross’s furnace had been leaking water, so he contacted a plumbing and heating company. This call may have saved their lives. The furnace technician used a Gas Measurement Instrument and found the furnace room contained 385 parts per million (ppm) of carbon monoxide (CO) — a life...
