SaskEnergy’s commitment to innovation and the environment has been recognized by the Canadian Gas Association (CGA), the voice of Canada’s natural gas delivery industry.

SaskEnergy won three Environmental Stewardship Awards at the CGA’s inaugural Energy Nexus event in Vancouver, a forum on the growing role of gaseous energy, such as natural gas, in Canada.

Two of the awards were for innovations by SaskEnergy in reducing emissions and the third recognized superior performance in SaskEnergy’s operating practices.

“I am thrilled that SaskEnergy’s commitment to innovative, environmentally sustainable operating practices and to reducing emissions through innovation has garnered national recognition from the CGA,” SaskEnergy’s Acting President and CEO Mark Guillet said. “These three awards are a testament to the hard work of all SaskEnergy employees as we strive to contribute to a greener Saskatchewan and meet our goal of reducing emissions from company operations by 35 per cent by 2030.”

In the CGA’s operating practices award category, SaskEnergy was honoured for its environmental screening tool, a web-based geographic information system that allows operational and engineering teams throughout the company to screen new gas line projects for any environmental, heritage and geohazard impacts.

In the innovations in emissions reduction award category, SaskEnergy won for implementing new technology that captures vented natural gas from the company’s transmission compressors, redirecting it into the engine air intake for use as a supplemental fuel.

SaskEnergy won its third award, also in the innovations in emissions reduction category, for enhancing its customer efficiency programming, which provides rebates to customers who replace old natural gas equipment with qualified high-efficiency models.

“As the largest energy distributor in the province, SaskEnergy plays a pivotal role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions while providing critical energy to Saskatchewan residents, businesses and industry,” Guillet said. “Moving forward, we will continue to help our customers become more efficient in their use of natural gas, while focusing on innovation and sound environmental practices to reduce emissions from our own operations.”

SaskEnergy delivers safe, reliable and affordable natural gas to homes, businesses and industry throughout Saskatchewan. SaskEnergy provides critical energy for a greener Saskatchewan and is committed to reducing emissions from operations by 35 per cent by 2030, compared to 2019 levels.
