Supporting sustainable development and energy security on First Nations

Bringing natural gas service to communities and First Nations is about more than just ease of access to an energy source. It also supports sustainable development and energy security. “Affordable, reliable energy is an important step in First Nations being able to grow and thrive," says Joseph Daniels, SaskEnergy’s Director of Indigenous Engagement. “It's something most of us take for granted. It makes our day-to-day lives much easier, but not all communities enjoy that same benefit.” SaskEnergy currently provides service to 52 Saskatchewan First Nations, with projects underway to increase...

Volunteers help make Canoe Kayak Nationals a success in Regina

Colourful canoes and kayaks, all lined up and ready to race, filled the south side of Wascana Lake at the end of August for the 2025 Canoe Kayak Canada Sprint National Championships. These championships drew more than 900 athletes from all over Canada to Regina. With so many athletes and races, it was all hands on deck to help the event run smoothly. That’s where more than 200 volunteers came in. “This event definitely could not happen without volunteers,” says Nathan Wilson, a member of the host organizing committee. “There can be up to 17 boats on the water at once, so we need people to help...

SaskEnergy staff in Regina caring for community over the holidays

Many people in Regina were a little warmer, happier and healthier this holiday season thanks to the generous support of SaskEnergy staff. “This is the time of year to reflect on what is really important in life and to highlight the importance of giving, especially to those who need it most,” says SaskEnergy employee Wendi Frederick. In early December, Wendi led a campaign to build feminine hygiene kits to donate to various organizations in Regina and quickly found support from her coworkers. System upgrades resulting in lower emissions

At SaskEnergy, we are committed to reducing emissions from our operations by 35 per cent by 2030. A lot of the work to achieve this goal involves technological upgrades to our system through three focus areas — vent gas reduction, optimization and renewable electricity. New systems We are designing and installing new flare systems at our stations across Saskatchewan, to cut down the amount of gas that is vented through our operations. Flare systems are regularly shown on TV news, or you may have noticed them while driving by – a flame coming from the top of a tall thin pipe at a SaskEnergy...

SaskEnergy Co-op and Summer Students spend a day helping furry friends

Tail wags, head scratches and a warm welcome from a few four-legged friends. That special greeting was waiting for a group of SaskEnergy Co-op and Summer Students who took part in a volunteer opportunity at the Regina Humane Society in July. The seven Co-op and Summer Students spent the day doing hands-on work to help the community organization and the animals it cares for. Don't overlook carbon monoxide safety this summer

The warm summer weather may mean that you’ve traded your furnace for an air conditioner (AC), but that doesn’t mean you can go ahead and forget about the importance of carbon monoxide (CO) safety! “It’s important to remember that CO dangers aren’t limited to the winter months,” says James Gates, Director of SaskEnergy’s Customer Solutons team. “While we may not be heating our homes in the summer months, CO is produced any time a carbon-based fuel — such as natural gas, propane, gasoline or wood — is burned, such as when operating a barbecue or when your water heater is running.” Proper...

Five tips for keeping the heat in and your costs down

The temperatures are dropping and it's time to fire up your furnace! No one likes winter heating bills. The good news is that a few simple changes around your home can reduce energy use while keeping you warm and comfortable all season long! Here are five home heating tips to help lower your energy bills: 1. Clean or replace your furnace filter every one to two months. A clean furnace filter allows your furnace to move more air and more efficiently heat your home. “A dirty furnace filter reduces airflow, causing your furnace fan to use more energy to heat your home,” says Derrick Nykoluk, a...

Rekindling long-ago customer connection a career highlight for employee

A quarter century ago, our construction crews were a main attraction for children spending their summers at Kenosee Provincial Park. SaskEnergy employees worked for several summers to extend gas service to cabins in the area in the late 1990s. “Some kids, you couldn’t get rid of them. They’re pointing and looking; the parents want to go, but the kids want to stay and see us work,” says Dale Staudt, a Crew Lead with our southern Saskatchewan Construction team. “We would stop and explain what we were doing and show them. We’d stand back with the parent and watch one of our guys dig. For a small...
