Each year, WorkSafe Saskatchewan recognizes individuals and organizations for the Safe Worker and Safe Employer Awards who are nominated by their workplace peers and colleagues.

In 2025, the Safe Worker Award went to one of SaskEnergy’s own, Customer Service Representative Sandee Jordon of Regina.

Sandee was on hand for the announcement at the awards ceremony at the Saskatchewan Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) annual Compensation Institute in Saskatoon on May 21.

“When my name was called, I completely froze,” says Sandee. “There are only a few moments in life where you feel such overwhelming pride — and this was absolutely one of them. I was stunned, grateful, and honestly still smiling about it today. To be recognized in this way is something I’ll never forget!”

During her more than 17 years with SaskEnergy, Sandee has affectionately become known to many as Safety Sandee, for her efforts to promote workplace safety — whether it’s her dedication to the local Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) committee, bringing in speakers, holding safety orientation for new employees or her fun safety videos.

“Her personality is infectious, when you’re around her you can’t help getting involved with whatever it is she is doing,” says Lindsay Waite – Operations Manager, Regina Area, who nominated Sandee for the award. “I think it’s this, combined with how serious she takes her OH&S role, and how personal her commitment to safety is, that makes her a truly effective safety leader. We’re lucky to have her.”

Sandee’s commitment to safety was inspired by her own experiences on the job — when she worked with Sask 1st Call, it was promoting the importance of safe digging practices, and at SaskEnergy, receiving emergency calls from customers. These experiences led her to join the OH&S committee at SaskEnergy, looking for ways — big and small — to help make her workplace safer.

“Safety is a personal responsibility that reflects my commitment to my own health, and the wellbeing of those around me. Ensuring safety prevent injuries and helps promote physical and mental health,” Sandee says. “Whether it's creating a funny video or celebrating our safety stats with coworkers, I make sure we're always talking about safety. At the end of the day, my goal is for every employee to get home to their families safely each and every night.”

This year, the winner was chosen by a committee of representatives from the WCB, WorkSafe Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, the Saskatchewan Safety Council and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers. However, for Sandee it was being nominated by her colleagues that meant the most.

“It means the world to me. It’s incredibly humbling and deeply motivating,” says Sandee. “I want to sincerely thank my colleagues for this incredible honor. Your belief in me and support of my work means more than I can put into words. This award is as much yours as it is mine.

Quote from Kevin Adair, Executive Vice President: Safety is a core value at SaskEnergy, and Sandee consistently demonstrates this commitment. Beyond this, she consistently embodies our values of integrity and teamwork, enhancing not only workplace safety but also the workplace environment. That is why I was pleased to learn that she was awarded the WorkSafe Saskatchewan Safe Worker Award to highlight her dedication. Congratulations, Sandee!
