Natural gas usage in Saskatchewan continues to break records

The return of extreme cold weather across Saskatchewan this week has again helped break the record for natural gas consumption in the province. Natural gas usage of an estimated 1.66 petajoules (PJ) on January 6, 2022 surpassed the previous daily record set on December 29, 2021. This marks the fifth time in the past two weeks that daily natural gas consumption in Saskatchewan has approached or exceeded 1.6 PJ. Saskatchewan sets new natural gas consumption record

A new record for daily natural gas consumption in the province was set last Friday due to the extreme cold temperatures, along with high natural gas consumption from industrial customers and power plants. SaskEnergy set a 24-hour record on Friday, December 16 th, 2016 delivering 1.33 PetaJoules of natural gas to customers, three per cent higher than the record set earlier this year in January 2016. A new record for daily natural gas consumption in the province was set over the weekend due to the cold temperatures, along with high natural gas consumption and new customer growth. In the 24-hour period on Saturday, January 16 th to Sunday, January 17 th, TransGas, the natural gas transmission subsidiary of SaskEnergy, delivered 1.29 PetaJoules (PJ) of natural gas to its customers in Saskatchewan.
