Three SaskEnergy employees hold an oversized cheque.

SaskEnergy’s team in Weyburn has repeatedly shown that they are a generous and hardworking bunch! Most recently, they raised more than $6,000 for the local United Way Communithon held October 28.

“My co-workers are always up for the challenge, and I am constantly impressed by their effort and hard work to give back to the community we live in,” says Weyburn employee Michell Giroux.

To prepare for this annual telethon, the Weyburn team organized and held two special fundraising events. In June, a garage and bake sale in the SaskEnergy parking lot raised close to $1,600, and items that didn’t sell went on to help families in need through a local secondhand store. In September, a silent auction and snack sale raised $750.

Employee cash donations, plus a 50 per cent matching grant from SaskEnergy, brought the grand total to $6,193.13.

Several employees also volunteered to make the telethon happen, helping co-ordinate performers and assisting with the livestream broadcast. The Communithon has raise funds for community agencies in the Weyburn area for more than 40 years, and our employees are keen to support this good cause.

“These types of services are extremely important to our community, so the organizations deserve the support,” says Michelle Roemer, one of the employee volunteers.

“I know that these agencies rely on donations from our community to help citizens of Weyburn, whether it be through Big Brothers Big Sisters Weyburn, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Weyburn Youth Centre, Inclusion Weyburn and many more. Our Communithon has helped people for more than 40 years and I hope it continues to do so for another 40,” says SaskEnergy employee Marla Swanson, who has served in various volunteer roles with the Weyburn & District United Way – including as board president.

SaskEnergy is proud to support the United Way in Weyburn and across Saskatchewan. Our annual corporate United Way campaign is held each fall, with employees across the province showing their generosity and commitment to stronger communities!
