Operational and end-use emissions reductions highlight SaskEnergy 2022-23 Sustainability Report

As SaskEnergy progresses on its 2030 emissions reduction goal, it also continues to increase the reach of its energy efficiency programs, which assist Saskatchewan homeowners and businesses in reducing energy usage, saving money, and decreasing end-use emissions. Highlighted in its 2022-23 Sustainability Report, released today, SaskEnergy invested an additional $1 million in its energy efficiency programs during 2022-23, providing residential and commercial customers with rebates to purchase high-efficiency heating equipment. Through these programs, customers reduced their annual energy...

SaskEnergy funds carbon capture at Regina Airport

SaskEnergy and the Regina Airport Authority (RAA) are piloting the use of new technology in Saskatchewan that could reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the main heating system at the Regina International Airport (YQR) by about 20 per cent, helping the RAA to achieve its environmental goals. A CarbinX small-scale carbon-capture device, manufactured by Calgary-based CleanO2, has been installed in the mechanical room of YQR’s Air Terminal Building. About $40,000 in SaskEnergy funding covered the cost and delivery of the unit and will also pay for independent measurement and verification to...

SaskEnergy supports community safety through cleanup events

For several years running, SaskEnergy employees have volunteered their time to support annual community cleanups in Regina and Yorkton. In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer. More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. These included tires, scrap metal, mattresses, furniture, appliances and yard debris. Meanwhile, the NCCA enlisted a group of young people to...

SaskEnergy ties all-time natural gas usage record

This record, set in the 24-hour period between 9:00 a.m. February 7 th and 9:00 a.m. February 8 th, ties the record set on December 30 th, 2017. The 1.50 PJ natural gas consumption record is due high natural gas consumption from residential, business and industrial customers – especially the natural gas load from power production, enhanced oil recovery and mining. A PetaJoule is a unit of measurement equivalent to one million GigaJoules (GJ) of natural gas – the average home in Saskatchewan...

Soaked But Strong: Volunteers Brave the Rain to Help Clean Up

Every year, the North Central Community Association organizes a clean-up to help get rid of garbage and large items in the inner-city neighbourhood before winter arrives. This year, the clean-up faced a new challenge — heavy rain, but that didn’t stop volunteers from showing up and doing their part. “The rain was constant during the clean-up, but things still went well,” says Misty-Lee Bird, a SaskEnergy employee who helped out along with her partner Jamey. “People in North Central don’t always have a way to get rid of big items, so even though we were soaked, it felt good to help.” Volunteers...

There’s Never a Dull Moment for SaskEnergy’s Equipment Operators!

Sometimes your work speaks for itself. That was certainly the case for two of SaskEnergy’s Construction team members. Both Nick Stone and Lucas Sabit found themselves applying for positions as Equipment Operators after working alongside SaskEnergy crews in their previous jobs. “I was working for a company doing horizontal directional drilling, and we frequently did jobs for SaskEnergy. The company was great to do work for — organized, efficient, professional — I really enjoyed doing the jobs for SaskEnergy,” says Nick. “When I saw the SaskEnergy job postings online I knew I’d be crazy not to...

SaskEnergy has received reports that individuals claiming to be from SaskEnergy are contacting customers, threatening disconnection of their natural gas service unless a bill payment is made within 30 minutes. The callers are telling customers to pay their most recent bill in a number of ways, including cash or Bitcoin. Calls have been reported in Regina, Saskatoon, Swift Current, Duck Lake, and Gull Lake. SaskEnergy wins three more national awards

SaskEnergy is once again being recognized on a national scale after winning three awards today from the Canadian Gas Association (CGA), the voice of Canada’s natural gas delivery industry.
