As cold weather returns to Saskatchewan, SaskEnergy is helping people stay warm — the Share the Warmth grant program is back. Many people in Regina were a little warmer, happier and healthier this holiday season thanks to the generous support of SaskEnergy staff. “This is the time of year to reflect on what is really important in life and to highlight the importance of giving, especially to those who need it most,” says SaskEnergy employee Wendi Frederick. In early December, Wendi led a campaign to build feminine hygiene kits to donate to various organizations in Regina and quickly found support from her coworkers. It’s important to SaskEnergy that when a volunteer fire department responds to an emergency that involves natural gas, they feel prepared and confident in keeping the situation safe. That’s why, for two decades, SaskEnergy has supported the Saskatchewan Volunteer Fire Fighters Association (SVFFA) by providing training and sponsorship support. For several years running, SaskEnergy employees have volunteered their time to support annual community cleanups in Regina and Yorkton. In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer. More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. Every day, the Regina Food Bank helps about 500 families — and that number keeps growing. During the holiday season, the need is even greater, making extra help from volunteers essential.
