Homes Beyond Code - Home Builder Rebate

SaskEnergy has introduced the Homes Beyond Code Program to encourage Home Builders and home buyers to think long-term and achieve higher tiers of energy efficiency than the minimum code set out by The National Building Code of Canada. 

As we work towards building a more sustainable future for Saskatchewan, we look forward to seeing Builders pave a path for energy-efficient homes in our province. 

Program Details:

  • Home Builders are eligible to receive $800 per approved building
  • Must be a new residential home on a permanent foundation, no larger than 600 m2 (6458 square feet)
    • Eligible housing types are a single-detached (including secondary suite), semi-detached, row house, townhouse or modular home
  • Hiring a qualified Home Builder in Saskatchewan is recommended. Owner-built homes are eligible but must meet the same criteria as a Home Builder (Section 2).
  • Built to energy efficiency tiers 3, 4 or 5 of section 9.36 of the National Building Code of Canada
  • Must use an Energy Advisor to guide the Builder in achieving tiers 3, 4 or 5
    • The Energy Advisor completes an impartial assessment of the home, as-built, to verify it meets the Program requirements. 
  • Property is located in Saskatchewan and connected to natural gas

How to Participate:

Work with an Energy Advisor 

Choose an Energy Advisor from a Registered Service Organization or member of the Canadian Association of Consulting Energy Advisors (CACEA). They're the experts who will provide advice on how to meet energy efficiency requirements and verify compliance with energy codes and programs.

Energy Advisor assessment 

Once the Energy Advisor models the home you can compare options on how to achieve energy performance tiers 3, 4 or 5 using natural gas as the primary heat source.

Inspection complete and documentation provided

Your Energy Advisor will complete a blower door test and EnerGuide rating to verify the energy performance of the home. Once the inspection is complete, you will be provided with an EnerGuide Homeowner Information Sheet and EnerGuide Label. These documents, along with a copy of the building permit, are required to complete the SaskEnergy rebate application.

Submit your application

Once construction of the home is complete submit your application within 90 days. The earliest completion date SaskEnergy will accept is March 15, 2024 (based on the final inspection report or occupancy permit).

Home Builder rebate issued

Once we receive your application, a rebate cheque will be mailed within 6 to 8 weeks.

Builders can apply for the rebate prior to the home being sold. Homeowners are eligible to apply for the rebate once SaskEnergy approves the Home Builder for their rebate.
