The initiative — which ran until February 13 — featured a series of events across the province aimed at highlighting community-based organizations who bring warmth, including shelter, food, clothing and mental health services, to those who need it most. Solar power is lightening our emissions from operations

After a full year of generating power, the large-scale solar installation at SaskEnergy’s Town Border Station (TBS) 1 in south Regina has proven to be a shining success! SaskEnergy’s first renewable electricity system began generating power in April 2023. In its first full year of operation, the TBS 1 solar panels performed even better than expected! “The system was sized according to that site’s annual power consumption, so we expected that the station’s net electrical usage would balance to zero,” says Trevor Ficor, an Engineer-in-Training with our Emissions Management team. But in our 2023...

Freeze/thaw cycle creates conditions for possible underground natural gas leaks

SaskEnergy is advising customers – both residential and business – that the unseasonably warm weather, following right after intense cold across the province, may create conditions that can lead to an underground natural gas leak. + While SaskEnergy’s pipeline system is designed to withstand Saskatchewan’s weather conditions, underground leaks can occur, typically in the spring, as frost leaves the ground. This year, due to the intense cold and the depth of the frost layer, followed by sudden warming, SaskEnergy is alerting customers that conditions are favourable for a leak to occur. If you...

About the Grain Drying Energy Estimator

Assumptions used in this estimator: The amount of energy required to evaporate 1 pound of water is 2,000 British Thermal Units (BTU’s). The amount of energy needed to dry grain varies. It depends on factors such as the energy efficiency of your grain drying unit. Environmental factors such as humidity and temperature also play a role. This calculator does not factor losses from conveyance or handling of grain. These can vary by crop type. The target levels of dryness used are samples to compare energy sources. These are for illustration purposes only. Calculations: The total annual energy cost...
