Highlighting Saskatchewan community organizations through Share the Warmth Days

There is a lot of good that sharing a little warmth can do. In honour of the 30th anniversary of SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program, we launched Share the Warmth Days. The initiative — which ran until February 13 — featured a series of events across the province aimed at highlighting community-based organizations who bring warmth, including shelter, food, clothing and mental health services, to those who need it most. For Share the Warmth Days event, SaskEnergy volunteers partnered with a local organization that was one of this year’s Share the Warmth grant recipients to hand out bags of...

Share the Warmth Days bring communities together across Saskatchewan

At the end of January, on a cold and windy winter day, SaskEnergy kicked off this year’s Share the Warmth Days in Regina. The chilly weather made it the perfect time to offer warm drinks, essential winter items, and friendly smiles to people passing by. “Being able to offer a warm cup of coffee, along with essential items, while wishing someone a great day was incredibly powerful,” says Zahra Hosseinmardi, a SaskEnergy employee who volunteered at the Regina event. This is the second year of Share the Warmth Days, an initiative that highlights the important work of local organizations that...

SaskEnergy is helping community groups “Share the Warmth” this winter

One of SaskEnergy’s flagship community programs—Share the Warmth—is back to support Saskatchewan people in need this winter. The program offers cash grants of up to $1,000 for grassroots community initiatives that provide food, clothing, and shelter support to families, children, seniors, homeless persons, and others who may need a hand. “What started nearly 30 years ago as a sweater recycling project to provide warm clothing to people in need has grown into one of SaskEnergy’s signature programs in communities across the province,” SaskEnergy’s Acting President and CEO Mark Guillet said....

Share the Warmth recipient brings counselling to rural communities

For many youth and families in rural Saskatchewan, accessing mental health support is not as simple as booking an appointment. Travel distances and financial pressures can stand in the way of getting help. That’s why Bring2Life Creative Counselling created the On-The-Go Mobile Counselling Program. It's designed to remove barriers to care. The program brings counselling services directly to rural communities across Saskatchewan. "The On-The-Go program meets individuals and families where they are," says Angela van den Heuvel, Executive Director of Bring2Life. She says it can be hard accessing...

Share the Warmth’s impact felt across Saskatchewan

As cold weather returns to Saskatchewan, SaskEnergy is helping people stay warm — the Share the Warmth grant program is back. One group that received help last year is the Homeplate Shelter Coalition Corp. in Meadow Lake, which runs a shelter for people who don’t have a safe place to stay during the cold winter months. “One of our biggest challenges is securing the funds needed to operate the emergency shelter during the coldest months,” says Joanne Gislason, Board Chair of ML Homeplate Shelter Coalition Corp. “The Share the Warmth funding from SaskEnergy made a meaningful difference in our...
