Rekindling long-ago customer connection a career highlight for employee

A quarter century ago, our construction crews were a main attraction for children spending their summers at Kenosee Provincial Park. SaskEnergy employees worked for several summers to extend gas service to cabins in the area in the late 1990s. “Some kids, you couldn’t get rid of them. They’re pointing and looking; the parents want to go, but the kids want to stay and see us work,” says Dale Staudt, a Crew Lead with our southern Saskatchewan Construction team. “We would stop and explain what we were doing and show them. We’d stand back with the parent and watch one of our guys dig. For a small...

SaskEnergy Launches $50 million System Expansion Project to Meet Increased Natural Gas Demand

As the demand for natural gas continues to grow in Saskatchewan, SaskEnergy is investing nearly $50 million in a system expansion project to meet the current and future energy needs of eastern Saskatchewan. Construction is now underway on The Regina East Expansion Project, which will increase natural gas capacity for residential, commercial and industrial growth in the Yorkton and Regina areas. “Saskatchewan’s growing population and booming economy need safe, reliable and affordable natural gas to heat our homes and fuel our industries,” said Greg Ottenbreit, MLA for Yorkton. “SaskEnergy’s...

Tipi-raising competition delivers lessons about work and life

Raising a tipi is about more than building a shelter. This was one of many lessons learned by teams in the Glen Anaquod Tipi Raising Competition. Four teams from SaskEnergy joined others from the community at the University of Regina in late September to take part in the annual event. The event was started in 2008 by Glen Anaquod, an Elder from Muscowpetung First Nation, to bring cultures together and share teachings in a kind and loving way. “It is a competition. But the day is about participating in Indigenous culture, team building and most important, having fun,” says Sharla Sparvier...

Supporting sustainable development and energy security on First Nations

Bringing natural gas service to communities and First Nations is about more than just ease of access to an energy source. It also supports sustainable development and energy security. “Affordable, reliable energy is an important step in First Nations being able to grow and thrive," says Joseph Daniels, SaskEnergy’s Director of Indigenous Engagement. “It's something most of us take for granted. It makes our day-to-day lives much easier, but not all communities enjoy that same benefit.” SaskEnergy currently provides service to 52 Saskatchewan First Nations, with projects underway to increase...
