Students from the Grade 6 class at Leader Composite School had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the importance of preserving Saskatchewan’s Southwest Sandhills. Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) hosted a tour of the Sandhills Cave Pasture, which allowed the students to explore the area, discovering the many animals, insects and plants that call it home. For weeks, Ross Carolan and his family felt sick but didn’t know why. Ross, his wife and their two young children were all feeling lethargic and coughing. Even their cat was irritable instead of her usual friendly self. This was in fall 2022. In what seemed like an unrelated issue at the time, the humidifier on Ross’s furnace had been leaking water, so he contacted a plumbing and heating company. This call may have saved their lives. A quarter century ago, our construction crews were a main attraction for children spending their summers at Kenosee Provincial Park. SaskEnergy employees worked for several summers to extend gas service to cabins in the area in the late 1990s. “Some kids, you couldn’t get rid of them.
