SaskEnergy proud to sponsor Fireside with Lyndon for another season

Several times a year, Remai Modern in Saskatoon fills with an audience curious to participate in an evening that stewards Indigenous engagement and honours Indigenous communities and groups with openness, transparency and dialogue. The event, known as Fireside with Lyndon, presented by SaskEnergy, is an intergenerational and cross-disciplinary program regarded as a unique opportunity for in-depth and sometimes challenging conversations. “We are delighted to once again be part of this Indigenous speaker series,” says Joseph Daniels, SaskEnergy’s Director of Indigenous Engagement. “At SaskEnergy...

SaskEnergy staff celebrate the season of giving!

This year, SaskEnergy staff have put some support for their community both under and on the Christmas tree! At SaskEnergy’s Regina Service Centre (RSC) location in White City, employees set up their annual Share the Warmth Christmas tree. SaskEnergy’s Ruth Copeland has been leading the initiative since it began in 2019. “Having the Share the Warmth tree up is a great way for everyone at the RSC to come together and give back to the community,” says Ruth. The initiative is tied in with SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program, where cash grants are given to charitable organizations to help them...

SaskEnergy supports NCC’s Southwest Sandhills conservation efforts

SaskEnergy’s Tracy Tangen knew about the Cave Pasture long before volunteering for cleanup duty at the former ranch a few weeks ago. Born and raised in the Swift Current area, Tracy has always appreciated the “scenic beauty” of this 286-hectare property just north of the city. The Cave Pasture is a new addition to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) conservation area in the Southwest Sandhills. SaskEnergy has proudly sponsored this NCC project since 2021. “I think it’s great that the NCC is working to conserve the Southwest Sandhills. We are fortunate to have organizations promoting the...

Staff connect with Indigenous culture in SaskEnergy’s first sweat lodge

Attending a sweat lodge for the first time can be a powerful experience. Just ask Kendra Lovas, an employee at SaskEnergy in Regina. “At first, it was hot and dark, my heart was beating fast, and I felt like my skin was burning,” says Kendra. “After the first break, I wasn’t sure if I would go back in, but I told myself that I needed to give it a chance, and I’m glad I did. It was a great experience.” SaskEnergy is committed to building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities. One way we have done this is through hosting feasts and pipe ceremonies. The gift of giving: SaskEnergy glad to support school Santa Stores

Ashley Baer held back tears while wrapping a gift for a child at the Connaught Elementary School Santa Store in North Battleford. “She told me last year they never got any presents,” says Ashley, a SaskEnergy employee in North Battleford. “She told me she was happy her brother would get a gift this year even if she doesn’t. This confirmed that what we’re doing is meaningful and that we need to continue volunteering and donating.” Santa Stores are held in community schools across Saskatchewan, so students can shop for affordable gifts for their loved ones during the holidays. Safety Day helps students build lifesaving skills

Students didn’t just learn about safety at the Cade Sprackman Safety Day in Regina — they experienced it firsthand. On May 27, more than 200 students from Campus Regina Public took part in a full day of hands-on activities designed to prepare them for real-life risks at work and in their communities. The event gave them practical skills and helped them understand how important it is to stay aware and make safe choices. “The students were really engaged and attentive,” says Lindsay Waite, an Operations Manager at SaskEnergy. “They were curious and wanted to learn how safety applies to real jobs...

Soaked but strong: volunteers brave the rain to help clean up

Every year, the North Central Community Association organizes a clean-up to help get rid of garbage and large items in the inner-city neighbourhood before winter arrives. This year, the clean-up faced a new challenge — heavy rain, but that didn’t stop volunteers from showing up and doing their part. “The rain was constant during the clean-up, but things still went well,” says Misty-Lee Bird, a SaskEnergy employee who helped out along with her partner Jamey. “People in North Central don’t always have a way to get rid of big items, so even though we were soaked, it felt good to help.” Volunteers...

Inspiring the next generation of Indigenous students through STEM

After its first year, SaskEnergy’s STEM Lunch and Learn program has reached hundreds of Indigenous students, built strong relationships with communities and planted the seeds about future careers in science, technology, engineering and math. “We didn’t know exactly how it would be received when we started,” says Dana Kostyk, one of the employees who helped create the program. “But seeing how engaged the students were made it clear this program filled a real need.” The STEM...
