Colourful canoes and kayaks, all lined up and ready to race, filled the south side of Wascana Lake at the end of August for the 2025 Canoe Kayak Canada Sprint National Championships. These championships drew more than 900 athletes from all over Canada to Regina. With so many athletes and races, it was all hands on deck to help the event run smoothly. Students from the Grade 6 class at Leader Composite School had the opportunity to learn firsthand about the importance of preserving Saskatchewan’s Southwest Sandhills. Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) hosted a tour of the Sandhills Cave Pasture, which allowed the students to explore the area, discovering the many animals, insects and plants that call it home. On May 27, more than 200 students from Campus Regina Public took part in a full day of hands-on activities designed to prepare them for real-life risks at work and in their communities.
