Blanket exercises build understanding of shared history

A recent blanket exercise at our Regina Service Centre hit close to home for SaskEnergy Operations employee Todd Sanderson. Todd spent eight years in the residential school system and knows firsthand the experiences discussed during the exercise. “The path we had to walk as a people helps explain where we are now,” Todd says. “Our history should be shared to close a gap between cultures that never should have been separated in the first place.” A number of SaskEnergy employees have taken part in blanket exercises as part of our company’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Employees roll up sleeves and lend a hand at Regina Food Bank

Every day, the Regina Food Bank helps about 500 families — and that number keeps growing. During the holiday season, the need is even greater, making extra help from volunteers essential. Recently, two groups of SaskEnergy employees spent time at the Food Bank, sorting and organizing food donations. For them, it was a chance to give back to the community and strengthen team connections. “The biggest takeaway for me was knowing that our efforts are directly helping those in our community. It felt good knowing that our small act of kindness was making a big difference to those in need,” says...

Soaked but strong: volunteers brave the rain to help clean up

Every year, the North Central Community Association organizes a clean-up to help get rid of garbage and large items in the inner-city neighbourhood before winter arrives. This year, the clean-up faced a new challenge — heavy rain, but that didn’t stop volunteers from showing up and doing their part. “The rain was constant during the clean-up, but things still went well,” says Misty-Lee Bird, a SaskEnergy employee who helped out along with her partner Jamey. “People in North Central don’t always have a way to get rid of big items, so even though we were soaked, it felt good to help.” Volunteers...

Catching more (Ar)rays with additional solar power installations

In early 2023, SaskEnergy’s first net-metering solar installation at Town Border Station (TBS) 1 in southwest Regina began generating electricity from the 176 solar panels installed on site. Fast forward to today, and we now have eight sites with large-scale solar arrays capable of generating power! These installations are a vital part of our Roadmap to 35 Per Cent by 2030, which includes integrating more renewable energy into our operations. “As part of our Roadmap we're focused on reducing both our direct emissions from our operations and our indirect emissions related to electricity...

Santa Stores bring holiday magic to Saskatchewan schools

This holiday season, SaskEnergy employees helped bring joy to classrooms across Saskatchewan through our annual Santa Store initiative. These pop-up stores give kids the chance to pick out gifts for their family members while learning the joy of giving. At St. Raphael Community School in Regina, volunteers set up tables overflowing with gift items donated by SaskEnergy employees. “It’s really impressive the amount of support SaskEnergy employees provide every Santa Store,” says employee Carter Henderson, who was volunteering for the first time at a Santa Store. “We had three full truckloads of...

Alarm saves Regina couple from carbon monoxide

Jim and Linda Dickenson decorate their heritage home to draw people from across Regina to be spooked there on Halloween night. But they were the ones to get a serious scare at home one summer evening. A colourless, odourless, and tasteless poison was drifting up from their basement and lingering near their second-floor bedroom, one that, over time, could send them to hospital — or even worse. Jim’s phone rang, surprising them while they watched a loud action movie. They were up on the third floor of their home that warm, dark evening. Their security company was calling. Mini libraries bring big smiles to Saskatchewan schools

In late November, Grade 3 students at St. Catherine School in Regina received a surprise that will shape their learning for years to come — a new mini classroom library. The excitement was immediate as students eagerly explored the fresh collection of books, flipping through pages and sharing discoveries with friends. For Jeanna Kozan, a SaskEnergy employee who visited the school during the delivery, one moment in particular stood out. “One of the children we met was very quiet and shy at first,” Jeanna says. “But as soon as he found a book that interested him, he grabbed it, sat down, and...
