Tipi-raising competition delivers lessons about work and life

Raising a tipi is about more than building a shelter. This was one of many lessons learned by teams in the Glen Anaquod Tipi Raising Competition. Four teams from SaskEnergy joined others from the community at the University of Regina in late September to take part in the annual event. The event was started in 2008 by Glen Anaquod, an Elder from Muscowpetung First Nation, to bring cultures together and share teachings in a kind and loving way. “It is a competition. But the day is about participating in Indigenous culture, team building and most important, having fun,” says Sharla Sparvier...

SaskEnergy Celebrates 30 Years of Sharing the Warmth

In recognition of the 30th anniversary of SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program, the Corporation is investing $100,000 in grants to charitable organizations that help our province’s most vulnerable through the cold winter months. Starting out as a sweater recycling program in the ‘90s that redistributed more than a million articles of clothing, Share the Warmth has transformed over the last decade into a grassroots initiative that supports charitable organizations in bringing warm shelter, clothing and mental health services to those who need it most. “We are very proud that the program has...

Our First Nations Furnace Replacement Rebate program is just one of many ways SaskEnergy is helping our customers. This was one of several programs we introduced in 2023-24, which are highlighted in our annual report. Yellow Quill First Nation in east-central Saskatchewan is benefiting from this rebate program. New high-efficiency natural gas furnaces are being installed at more than 40 homes. This is helping residents reduce emissions and costs. “For years, the issue of furnaces needing replacement has been a concern for our community. SaskEnergy program offers free furnace tune-ups to income-qualified homeowners

Beginning today, homeowners can apply for a free home heating tune-up through SaskEnergy’s Tune-up Assistance Program (TAP). Offered through participating SaskEnergy Network Members, the program is open to qualifying Saskatchewan homeowners with a combined annual household income (before taxes) of less than $68,000. “Since this program was launched five years ago, it has helped more than 2,300 homeowners across the province keep their furnaces in safe working order,” said Kevin Adair, who leads SaskEnergy’s Customer Service Operations. “Regular furnace tune-ups can prevent costly repairs down...

Indigenous artists share their culture through two new SaskEnergy projects

First Nations artists Tim Neal and Jade Roberts have shared their talent and expertise with SaskEnergy through two recent projects. Their artwork will appear across Saskatchewan on SaskEnergy billboards, advertisements, social media and at events. We are proud to showcase their work while we connect with Indigenous communities. Tim’s designs include a new version of SaskEnergy’s logo and other images. These show scenes from nature aligned with the sacred elements — fire, water, earth and air. “Having an actual designer or the artwork being done by First Nations provides a ton of cultural...

First Nations Safety Signs earn national recognition

At SaskEnergy, safety is a shared responsibility — it’s shared by our employees and customers, and by the people of Saskatchewan, who live and work near our infrastructure. This shared responsibility helped inspire SaskEnergy’s First Nations safety signs project, which created new natural gas safety signs featuring Indigenous artwork to be used on First Nations across Saskatchewan. Supporting sustainable development and energy security on First Nations

Bringing natural gas service to communities and First Nations is about more than just ease of access to an energy source. It also supports sustainable development and energy security. “Affordable, reliable energy is an important step in First Nations being able to grow and thrive," says Joseph Daniels, SaskEnergy’s Director of Indigenous Engagement. “It's something most of us take for granted. In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer. More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. These included tires, scrap metal, mattresses, furniture, appliances and yard debris. Meanwhile, the NCCA enlisted a group of young people to...
