Provincial government approves SaskEnergy’s commodity rate increase; the lowest rate in Canada

The Government of Saskatchewan has approved SaskEnergy’s application to increase its commodity rate — the first increase in seven years after four consecutive decreases. The new rate will be the lowest in Canada. Effective November 1, 2021, SaskEnergy’s commodity rate changes from $2.575/Gigajoule (GJ) to $3.20/GJ. Natural Gas Service During an Evacuation SaskEnergy is monitoring the wildfire situation in the province and is aware of evacuations occurring in impacted communities. Natural gas service will be available as long as it is safe to keep service on. If an evacuation is required, follow the evacuation order, and rely on SaskEnergy field staff or Emergency First Responders to handle decisions about turning off your natural gas service. Public safety and system improvements focus of rate application

SaskEnergy has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel for a Delivery Service Rate increase to support continued elevated capital spending on system safety and customer growth initiatives totaling more than $50 million in 2017/18. If approved, a typical residential customer would see an increase of $1.65/month – 2.3 per cent of their total bill – effective November 1 st, 2017.
