Lowest SaskEnergy Commodity Rates in 20 Years Approved by Government; Savings Eliminated by Federal Carbon Tax

The Government of Saskatchewan has approved changes recommended by the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel to SaskEnergy’s Commodity and Delivery Service Rates. SaskEnergy’s Commodity Rate will be lowered from $3.65/Gigajoule(GJ) to $2.575/GJ, the lowest rate in 20 years, and the Delivery Service Rate will increase by 3.4 per cent to provide additional funding for safety and infrastructure investments. A new record for daily natural gas consumption in the province was set last Friday due to the extreme cold temperatures, along with high natural gas consumption from industrial customers and power plants. SaskEnergy set a 24-hour record on Friday, December 16 th, 2016 delivering 1.33 PetaJoules of natural gas to customers, three per cent higher than the record set earlier this year in January 2016. In the 24-hour period on Saturday, January 16 th to Sunday, January 17 th, TransGas, the natural gas transmission subsidiary of SaskEnergy, delivered 1.29 PetaJoules (PJ) of natural gas to its customers in Saskatchewan. Daily natural gas consumption in the province has set a new record of 1.43 PetaJoules (PJ) of natural gas. This record, set in the 24-hour period between 9 a.m. December 26 and 9 a.m. December 27, breaks new records set on both December 24 and December 25.
