Diversity and inclusion celebrated at Saskatchewan Winter Games

The Saskatchewan Winter Games truly are for everyone. This was demonstrated through efforts to make volunteering accessible at this year’s Games, and through cultural celebrations showcasing the diversity of our province. SaskEnergy was proud to be the Champion of Volunteers for the 50th Saskatchewan Winter Games, a youth sporting celebration that took place in Regina from February 19 to 25, supported by 700 volunteers. One volunteer who deserves a special shout-out is 19-year-old Ebuka Nwobodo, a newcomer from Nigeria. Ebuka helped by working as security to check badges and make sure people...

Our Weyburn employees are committed to their community

SaskEnergy’s team in Weyburn has repeatedly shown that they are a generous and hardworking bunch! Most recently, they raised more than $6,000 for the local United Way Communithon held October 28. “My co-workers are always up for the challenge, and I am constantly impressed by their effort and hard work to give back to the community we live in,” says Weyburn employee Michell Giroux. To prepare for this annual telethon, the Weyburn team organized and held two special fundraising events. In June, a garage and bake sale in the SaskEnergy parking lot raised close to $1,600, and items that didn’t...

Share the Warmth’s impact felt across Saskatchewan

As cold weather returns to Saskatchewan, SaskEnergy is helping people stay warm — the Share the Warmth grant program is back. One group that received help last year is the Homeplate Shelter Coalition Corp. in Meadow Lake, which runs a shelter for people who don’t have a safe place to stay during the cold winter months. “One of our biggest challenges is securing the funds needed to operate the emergency shelter during the coldest months,” says Joanne Gislason, Board Chair of ML Homeplate Shelter Coalition Corp. “The Share the Warmth funding from SaskEnergy made a meaningful difference in our...

Soaked But Strong: Volunteers Brave the Rain to Help Clean Up

Every year, the North Central Community Association organizes a clean-up to help get rid of garbage and large items in the inner-city neighbourhood before winter arrives. This year, the clean-up faced a new challenge — heavy rain, but that didn’t stop volunteers from showing up and doing their part. “The rain was constant during the clean-up, but things still went well,” says Misty-Lee Bird, a SaskEnergy employee who helped out along with her partner Jamey. “People in North Central don’t always have a way to get rid of big items, so even though we were soaked, it felt good to help.” Volunteers...

At the end of July, 12 co-op and summer students from SaskEnergy spent two days volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Regina.
