Staff connect with Indigenous culture in SaskEnergy’s first sweat lodge

Attending a sweat lodge for the first time can be a powerful experience. Just ask Kendra Lovas, an employee at SaskEnergy in Regina. “At first, it was hot and dark, my heart was beating fast, and I felt like my skin was burning,” says Kendra. “After the first break, I wasn’t sure if I would go back in, but I told myself that I needed to give it a chance, and I’m glad I did. It was a great experience.” SaskEnergy is committed to building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities. One way we have done this is through hosting feasts and pipe ceremonies. This was the first time...

The gift of giving: SaskEnergy glad to support school Santa Stores

Ashley Baer held back tears while wrapping a gift for a child at the Connaught Elementary School Santa Store in North Battleford. “She told me last year they never got any presents,” says Ashley, a SaskEnergy employee in North Battleford. “She told me she was happy her brother would get a gift this year even if she doesn’t. This confirmed that what we’re doing is meaningful and that we need to continue volunteering and donating.” Santa Stores are held in community schools across Saskatchewan, so students can shop for affordable gifts for their loved ones during the holidays. This year...

Helping Hands: Summer Students Volunteer at Habitat for Humanity ReStore

At the end of July, 12 co-op and summer students from SaskEnergy spent two days volunteering at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Regina. For Samarth Soni, a co-op student in our Enterprise Networks team, it was his first time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. He said the experience was more than just helping out for a few hours. “It quickly became something much more meaningful,” Samarth said. “It was eye-opening to see how even small tasks can make a big difference when people work together.” The students came together from different departments throughout the company to help sort...

Santa Stores Bring Holiday Magic to Saskatchewan Schools

This holiday season, SaskEnergy employees helped bring joy to classrooms across Saskatchewan through our annual Santa Store initiative. These pop-up stores give kids the chance to pick out gifts for their family members while learning the joy of giving. At St. Raphael Community School in Regina, volunteers set up tables overflowing with gift items donated by SaskEnergy employees. “It’s really impressive the amount of support SaskEnergy employees provide every Santa Store,” says employee Carter Henderson, who was volunteering for the first time at a Santa Store. “We had three full truckloads of...

Mini libraries bring big smiles to Saskatchewan schools

In late November, Grade 3 students at St. Catherine School in Regina received a surprise that will shape their learning for years to come — a new mini classroom library. The excitement was immediate as students eagerly explored the fresh collection of books, flipping through pages and sharing discoveries with friends. For Jeanna Kozan, a SaskEnergy employee who visited the school during the delivery, one moment in particular stood out. “One of the children we met was very quiet and shy at first,” Jeanna says. “But as soon as he found a book that interested him, he grabbed it, sat down, and...

Soaked But Strong: Volunteers Brave the Rain to Help Clean Up

Every year, the North Central Community Association organizes a clean-up to help get rid of garbage and large items in the inner-city neighbourhood before winter arrives. This year, the clean-up faced a new challenge — heavy rain, but that didn’t stop volunteers from showing up and doing their part. “The rain was constant during the clean-up, but things still went well,” says Misty-Lee Bird, a SaskEnergy employee who helped out along with her partner Jamey. “People in North Central don’t always have a way to get rid of big items, so even though we were soaked, it felt good to help.” Volunteers...
