SaskEnergy focused on customers and the environment in 2021-22

SaskEnergy provided value to customers throughout 2021-22 — including the lowest residential natural gas bills in Canada — while delivering strong financial results on behalf of the people of Saskatchewan. In its annual report released today, SaskEnergy reported net income from operations of $82 million - up $23 million compared to last year. The increase is largely due to a one-time accounting adjustment related to the conclusion of litigation that awarded SaskEnergy title to its head office building in Regina. Higher demand for natural gas from industrial customers, as well as higher demand...

Our system is 99.99 reliable — here’s how

When you turn up your thermostat or fire up your gas stove to cook supper, you might wonder about the energy source behind these simple tasks. SaskEnergy’s natural gas system spans across Saskatchewan. We serve about 411,000 customers through more than 72,000 kilometres of distribution gas lines. We work hard to maintain a system that’s more than 99.99 per cent reliable. Variety of programs and services benefit SaskEnergy customers

Our First Nations Furnace Replacement Rebate program is just one of many ways SaskEnergy is helping our customers. This was one of several programs we introduced in 2023-24, which are highlighted in our annual report. Yellow Quill First Nation in east-central Saskatchewan is benefiting from this rebate program. New high-efficiency natural gas furnaces are being installed at more than 40 homes. This is helping residents reduce emissions and costs. “For years, the issue of furnaces needing replacement has been a concern for our community. This SaskEnergy rebate really helped,” says Darrell...

As SaskEnergy works toward the goal of reducing emissions by 35 per cent by 2030, our Emissions Management team is leading the charge. A small but mighty team of four employees, all of their work hinges on SaskEnergy’s environmental regulatory compliance requirements and voluntary commitments related to emissions reduction. SaskEnergy funds carbon capture at Regina Airport

SaskEnergy and the Regina Airport Authority (RAA) are piloting the use of new technology in Saskatchewan that could reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the main heating system at the Regina International Airport (YQR) by about 20 per cent, helping the RAA to achieve its environmental goals. A CarbinX small-scale carbon-capture device, manufactured by Calgary-based CleanO2, has been installed in the mechanical room of YQR’s Air Terminal Building. About $40,000 in SaskEnergy funding covered the cost and delivery of the unit and will also pay for independent measurement and verification to...
