A new record for daily natural gas consumption in the province was set last Friday due to the extreme cold temperatures, along with high natural gas consumption from industrial customers and power plants. SaskEnergy set a 24-hour record on Friday, December 16 th, 2016 delivering 1.33 PetaJoules of natural gas to customers, three per cent higher than the record set earlier this year in January 2016. A new record for daily natural gas consumption in the province was set over the weekend due to the cold temperatures, along with high natural gas consumption and new customer growth. In the 24-hour period on Saturday, January 16 th to Sunday, January 17 th, TransGas, the natural gas transmission subsidiary of SaskEnergy, delivered 1.29 PetaJoules (PJ) of natural gas to its customers in Saskatchewan. Daily natural gas consumption in the province has set a new record of 1.43 PetaJoules (PJ) of natural gas. This record, set in the 24-hour period between 9 a.m. December 26 and 9 a.m. December 27, breaks new records set on both December 24 and December 25. SaskEnergy completes investigation into Prud’homme cavern wellhead fire; decommissions affected underground storage cavern

SaskEnergy has completed the investigation into the October 2014 gas release and fire at its Prud’homme natural gas storage facility east of Saskatoon. The nine-day incident began October 11 th, 2014 at one of the seven underground natural gas storage caverns at the facility. No one was hurt in the incident, and no service was lost to any residential, business or industrial customer. The gas release was safely contained on October 17th with the installation of a new wellhead; safety testing and site clearance were completed two days later. Daily natural gas consumption in the province has again surpassed the previous usage record. Daily gas consumption numbers are tracked over a 24-hour period from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. – a new record of 1.59 petajoules (PJ) was set today. Extreme cold weather across Saskatchewan this week resulted in record-breaking natural gas demand in the province. On December 28 and 29, natural gas consumption surpassed the previous daily record of 1.57 petajoules (PJ) which was set in February 2021. A new daily record of 1.62 PJ was set on December 28 and broken again on December 29 with total system delivery of 1.64 PJ.
