Extreme cold weather across Saskatchewan this past week resulted in record-breaking natural gas demand in the province. The peak demand was on January 12 with a natural gas consumption rate of 1.70 petajoules per day (PJ/d). Daily natural gas consumption in the province over the last 24 hours (9:00 a.m. Thursday to 9:00 a.m. today) has tied the previous record set in December 2016 of 1.33 PetaJoules (PJ) of natural gas. This is the fourth consecutive winter in a row that a new record has been established, and eight of the top 10 peak load or near record-setting days for SaskEnergy have occurred this winter.
