'Starting in a good way': A pipe ceremony’s important role for a project

On a sunny day in June, a team of SaskEnergy employees met with an Indigenous Elder, consultants, and the Mayor of St. Louis, Saskatchewan. They wanted to begin a pipeline replacement project, occurring within village limits, with care and respect. Elder Calvin and his team from Fox Valley Counselling led a pipe ceremony for the group alongside the South Saskatchewan River — an important area to Indigenous and Métis communities. The ceremony took place near the buffalo monument in St. Louis, which holds deep cultural meaning. “We’re learning to recognize the importance of the land through...

For your Farm

Grain Drying When the weather doesn't cooperate, a natural gas grain dryer can extend your harvest season. Grain quality counts and a dryer can ensure your grain ends up in the bin instead of left in the field. Benefits of using natural gas versus other energy options include: Lower fuel costs Convenience of not dealing with tanks or the need to refuel Reduced drying time Less greenhouse gas emissions Fuel Consumption In Saskatchewan, the typical grain drying temperature is 10 degrees Celsius. Using heat to dry the grain during the fall season prior to below zero temperatures will reduce...

Building relationships and natural gas lines with the Peter Chapman Band

In many Indigenous cultures a pipe ceremony symbolizes unity, peace and a connection between the physical and spiritual worlds. Since early 2022, these ceremonies have become commonplace during SaskEnergy gas line construction projects. “A pipe ceremony is really about connection and prayer. For example, at SaskEnergy when we have these ceremonies as part of our construction projects, we’re asking for the safety of our personnel, we’re asking for a successful project and we’re also asking for forgiveness for disturbing the land, for disturbing Mother Earth,” explains Joseph Daniels, Director...

SaskEnergy launches Safe Digging Excellence Award

What better time to recognize Saskatchewan contractors who are dedicated to safe digging practices than during Dig Safe Month? This April, SaskEnergy launched the Safe Digging Excellence Award to recognize and celebrate contractors who reduce the risk of damage to underground infrastructure by following safe digging practices. In the first year of the award, SaskEnergy recognized three Saskatchewan businesses that make safe digging a focus on every job site — Parkland Contracting and Vac Services (Yorkton), Yaremy Screw Piles (Melfort) and Jerry Mainil Limited (Weyburn). {"preview_thumbnail":"...

Demonstrating the Champion of Volunteers spirit at the Regina Food Bank

SaskEnergy is celebrating 25 years of being Saskatchewan’s Champion of Volunteers. With that, many of our employees are renewing their commitment to making an impact in the community. In February, a team of SaskEnergy employees volunteered at the Regina Food Bank. “It feels good to help such an impactful organization.
