SaskEnergy staff in Regina caring for community over the holidays
Many people in Regina were a little warmer, happier and healthier this holiday season thanks to the generous support of SaskEnergy staff. “This is the time of year to reflect on what is really important in life and to highlight the importance of giving, especially to those who need it most,” says SaskEnergy employee Wendi Frederick. In early December, Wendi led a campaign to build feminine hygiene kits to donate to various organizations in Regina and quickly found support from her coworkers. In total, $1,779 was raised through the campaign. This was enough to create 27 kits, which were donated...

SaskEnergy supports community safety through cleanup events
For several years running, SaskEnergy employees have volunteered their time to support annual community cleanups in Regina and Yorkton. In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer. More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. These included tires, scrap metal, mattresses, furniture, appliances and yard debris. Meanwhile, the NCCA enlisted a group of young people to...

Highlighting Saskatchewan community organizations through Share the Warmth Days
There is a lot of good that sharing a little warmth can do. In honour of the 30th anniversary of SaskEnergy’s Share the Warmth program, we launched Share the Warmth Days. The initiative — which ran until February 13 — featured a series of events across the province aimed at highlighting community-based organizations who bring warmth, including shelter, food, clothing and mental health services, to those who need it most. For Share the Warmth Days event, SaskEnergy volunteers partnered with a local organization that was one of this year’s Share the Warmth grant recipients to hand out bags of...

‘Clean’ technology project piloted at Regina airport
SaskEnergy and the Regina Airport Authority (RAA) are piloting the use of new technology in Saskatchewan — a CarbinX small-scale carbon capture device — to reduce emissions from the main heating system at the Regina International Airport (YQR) by about 20 per cent. Manufactured by Calgary-based company CleanO2, the CarbinX device is capturing a portion of the carbon dioxide emissions from the airport terminal’s boiler system, which would normally be vented, and converts it into non-toxic pearl ash (potassium carbonate). The pearl ash is then used to make carbon-capture soap, and other cleaning...

Our Weyburn employees are committed to their community
SaskEnergy’s team in Weyburn has repeatedly shown that they are a generous and hardworking bunch! Most recently, they raised more than $6,000 for the local United Way Communithon held October 28. “My co-workers are always up for the challenge, and I am constantly impressed by their effort and hard work to give back to the community we live in,” says Weyburn employee Michell Giroux. To prepare for this annual telethon, the Weyburn team organized and held two special fundraising events. Regina pilot project tracking real-time energy usage
As part of SaskEnergy’s commitment to environmental sustainability, a pilot project at our Regina Service Centre (RSC) is tracking real-time energy consumption, which will help us to reduce our emissions at that location. For most of this year, Regina-based energy management company Greenwave Innovations has been collecting round-the-clock data from 105 different monitoring points at RSC, which is one of our larger sites. This will help us determine where we can find efficiencies in our electricity and natural gas usage. Current transmitters are installed within electrical panels across the...
