For several years running, SaskEnergy employees have volunteered their time to support annual community cleanups in Regina and Yorkton. In Regina on May 11, SaskEnergy pitched in at the North Central Community Association (NCCA)’s annual community cleanup to help make the central Regina neighbourhood a bit cleaner and safer. More than 20 employees and their family members assisted in filling nine oversized garbage bins with difficult-to-dispose items. SaskEnergy and the Regina Airport Authority (RAA) are piloting the use of new technology in Saskatchewan — a CarbinX small-scale carbon capture device — to reduce emissions from the main heating system at the Regina International Airport (YQR) by about 20 per cent. Manufactured by Calgary-based company CleanO2, the CarbinX device is capturing a portion of the carbon dioxide emissions from the airport terminal’s boiler system, which would normally be vented, and converts it into non-toxic pearl ash (potassium carbonate). As part of SaskEnergy’s commitment to environmental sustainability, a pilot project at our Regina Service Centre (RSC) is tracking real-time energy consumption, which will help us to reduce our emissions at that location. For most of this year, Regina-based energy management company Greenwave Innovations has been collecting round-the-clock data from 105 different monitoring points at RSC, which is one of our larger sites.
