Indigenous Branding and Design

Creating a Collaborative Story SaskEnergy is committed to building meaningful, long-term relationships with Indigenous communities. As part of this commitment, we collaborated with Saskatoon- based Cree artist Tim Neal and consultant Tia Larocque to incorporate elements of Indigenous culture into our brand. Throughout the past year, SaskEnergy consulted with Tim, Tia and other project participants to gain insights and understand connections between Indigenous culture and the service SaskEnergy provides to communities throughout Saskatchewan. The result is a visual story that symbolizes the...

Reliable natural gas service a year-round effort at SaskEnergy

Brrrrr it’s cold in here! Luckily, there’s a quick fix! With the simple press of a button on your thermostat you’ll soon be nice and toasty. That was the case for many of SaskEnergy’s customers in February, as they used 36 per cent more gas than they did for the same month in 2024. While we didn’t set a new “peak day” record this winter, February’s daily average for natural gas delivered in the province was the second highest on record. While turning up your thermostat might feel like hitting the easy button, it takes year-round planning and maintenance from teams across SaskEnergy to make...

SaskEnergy applies for first commodity rate increase in seven years; remains second lowest in Canada

SaskEnergy has applied to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel to increase its commodity rate, which would continue to be the lowest in Western Canada and the second lowest in the country. The proposed commodity rate of $3.15/gigajoule (GJ), up from $2.58/GJ, would increase the average residential customer’s bill by $5.65 per month. SaskEnergy’s commodity rate is a pass-through of market costs, with no profit or loss earned. “Natural gas prices in the open market have essentially doubled since SaskEnergy decreased the commodity rate in 2019. Increased natural gas demand for power generation...

SaskEnergy completes investigation into Prud’homme cavern wellhead fire; decommissions affected underground storage cavern

SaskEnergy has completed the investigation into the October 2014 gas release and fire at its Prud’homme natural gas storage facility east of Saskatoon. The nine-day incident began October 11 th, 2014 at one of the seven underground natural gas storage caverns at the facility. No one was hurt in the incident, and no service was lost to any residential, business or industrial customer. The gas release was safely contained on October 17th with the installation of a new wellhead; safety testing and site clearance were completed two days later. The remaining caverns at the site were not impacted...

SaskEnergy is making it easier for customers to stay informed about their natural gas services by launching a mobile application. “SaskEnergy is continuing to find innovative ways to provide the high quality of service people expect from our Crown corporations,” Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy Don Morgan said. “The launch of their app will make it easier for the more than 408,000 customers SaskEnergy serves to stay up-to-date on their accounts.” In March, SaskEnergy launched its online account, a new digital customer platform, available at saskenergy.com. Now coupled with the mobile app...

SaskEnergy to Request Rate Adjustments; Customer Bills to Decrease

SaskEnergy customers could soon be paying less on their monthly natural gas bills after the corporation brings a request for adjustments to its commodity and delivery service rates to the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel (SRRP). On June 29, 2023, SaskEnergy will apply to the SRRP for a 22.1 per cent decrease to the commodity rate, dropping it from $4.20 to $3.30 per gigajoule. At the same time, SaskEnergy will also bring forward a proposal for the SRRP to consider a five per cent delivery service rate increase. The combined commodity and delivery service rate adjustments will result in an...

SaskEnergy ties all-time natural gas usage record

Daily natural gas consumption in the province has tied the current record of 1.50 PetaJoules (PJ). This record, set in the 24-hour period between 9:00 a.m. February 7 th and 9:00 a.m. February 8 th, ties the record set on December 30 th, 2017. The 1.50 PJ natural gas consumption record is due high natural gas consumption from residential, business and industrial customers – especially the natural gas load from power production, enhanced oil recovery and mining.
