SaskEnergy completes investigation into Prud’homme cavern wellhead fire; decommissions affected underground storage cavern

SaskEnergy has completed the investigation into the October 2014 gas release and fire at its Prud’homme natural gas storage facility east of Saskatoon. The nine-day incident began October 11 th, 2014 at one of the seven underground natural gas storage caverns at the facility. No one was hurt in the incident, and no service was lost to any residential, business or industrial customer. On a sunny day in June, a team of SaskEnergy employees met with an Indigenous Elder, consultants, and the Mayor of St. Louis, Saskatchewan. What substance is added to natural gas to give it an odour? What does it smell like? Students got the answers to these questions and more as part of Cade Sprackman Safety Day events that took place in Tisdale and Melville during May. Sustainability a top priority as SaskEnergy looks toward 2023

SaskEnergy now has a clear path to achieving its goal of cutting emissions from operations by 35 per cent by the year 2030.
