Recognizing Excellence
The Safe Digging Excellence Awards recognize companies who consistently go above and beyond to demonstrate their commitment to safe excavation practices. Starting in 2025, the program highlights contractors who:
- Prioritize Safety
- Request underground line locates as part of project planning
- Prevent incidents that can lead to costly damage or serious harm
- Set the standard for the industry
Why It Matters
Heavy machinery is the number one cause of damage to natural gas infrastructure. Every year, preventable gas line hits put people, property, and essential services at risk. By shining the spotlight on companies who make damage prevention part of their everyday work, the whole industry can learn from one another and strengthen their practices.
Become an Award Recipient
This initiative targets Saskatchewan-based corporations that have completed a minimum of 25 line locates per calendar year and have maintained a record of zero line hits over the past three consecutive years. To be eligible you must also:
- Be an excavation corporation in Saskatchewan and operating primarily in the province for at least the past three years
- Be in good standing with the Better Business Bureau and Information Services Corporation

Winners are selected based on interactions with SaskEnergy and through a data-driven approach. Currently, we aren’t accepting public nominations.
