Building relationships with Indigenous communities through feasts

When Joseph Daniels, SaskEnergy’s Director of Indigenous Engagement, drove home after recently helping co-host two feasts and pipe ceremonies on back-to-back days, he was “smiling ear to ear!” “It was one of those weeks that I’ll never forget,” says Joseph. “Getting a chance to be out there fostering our relationships with the people of these communities, that’s the stuff that I really get a charge out of.” The first feast was held on September 28 and was co-hosted by the James Smith Cree Nation. This feast celebrated the completion of the Melfort East Expansion Project, which enhances...

Work term provides student with diverse learning experience

University of Regina student Jacob Tedla recently completed a summer work term at SaskEnergy — and it was hardly par for the course! A highlight of his term? Getting to take part in the Grand Entry of Piapot First Nation’s powwow in August! “Taking part in the Grand Entry made me feel special,” Jacob says. “It was kind of intimidating because I haven’t had a chance to experience the culture this way. The biggest takeaway I got was how welcoming and warm the community was.” While Jacob was part of our information technology team for the summer, the Business Administration student sought...

Construction meets conservation: bird-friendly expansion at Prud’homme

For years, SaskEnergy's Prud’homme Compressor Station has been more than a hub for energy — it’s been a hidden sanctuary for nesting birds. “We've been managing nesting birds at the station for more than 10 years. There are several wetlands near the facility and the area provides excellent nesting habitat for migratory bird species,” says Ashley Syrgiannis, SaskEnergy's Manager of Environmental Assessment. “So, before our Prud’homme Expansion Project began, we approached our Operations team to see if they would be interested in some habitat enhancements.” As part of the Prud’homme Expansion...
